I’ve been to Amsterdam and been to the Van Gogh Museum there. I will never forget entering and seeing his painting of sunflowers fill the wall in front of me. Sunflowers can grow anywhere and you can do anything you have a passion for. I love this book whose theme is to inspire women. The reader wishes we could have met Violet and hopes everyone can have a person like her in his/her life. I admire the author for venturing into a new genre – historical fiction plus a mystery plus love stories, disappointments, how to move on when you are grieving. So glad she wrote this book.

I enjoyed reading about the strong women in this book, which was a recurring theme. While the men were strong and talented and overbearing in the case of Trey, it was the women who made everything happen. Johanna refusing to quit was mirrored by Emsley strength and persistence and refusal to quit I. Her own endeavors.Well written and fast moving.

The story was so interesting and inspiring. I knew a little about Vincent Van Gogh, but really not a thing about his struggles or life. I actually took a break from reading to do a little research on his life. The author appears to have really based the story on real life. I had never heard of Johanna or Theo but got to know them through the story. I think I will read something more by this author.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It grabbed me from the beginning and never let go. I found the characters delightful. Yes, there are a few loose ends that weren’t touched on such as the fact that Theo actually died from syphilis, but overall, I was truly impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the book. I found myself looking forward to reading it and having a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend it.

Very well written. The author did a great job researching. Some years ago I read one of his biographies and there was some mention of his sister-in-law. It’s amazing how determined Jo was to get the recognition for his work, even though he had passed before this happened.. Great read. I recommend it to any art enthusiast or just a passion for a good story..

History, art, inspiration, wit and a little women’s lib thrown in. You’re drawn in thinking you know a little of the Van Gogh story and find out there’s a whole story behind the story. And it took a woman to make sure his art lived on and literally wasn’t burned or painted over. Ah, and then there’s the hard to resist love story ….A must read!
