This book was very good, but not as good as his earlier books. There was too much about the battles. I skipped thru much of that. I hope that his next book will have more characterization about the individual characters

I hated for this book to end because it’s the end of the Kingsbridge series. The Armor of Light is an amazing read, with so much attention to historical detail. Perfect ending to a great series.

All five of these books are wonderful to read. Ken Follett is a treasure of a writer. His characters and historical contexts make all these an enjoyable and educational experience.

What a wonderful Historically accurate storyteller! Thank you Mr. Follett for writing these books that I wish would not end. History was always one of my favorite subjects in school and I have continued my education by reading these books. But it’s not like school, it is a great tale of what life was like – an incredibly interesting story of our lives. I hope there will be more! And when there isn’t any more I am going to start over and read them all again!!

Excellent historical fiction continuing Kingsbridge series. Set in the 1800s the turmoil of the industrial revolution and class struggle in the aftermath of the French revolution makes for great stories. Not to mention that Napoleonic wars. I highly recommend this book.

This book continues the kings bridge series set at the turn of the 19th century with the turmoil of the industrial revolution and the Napoleonic wars being the engines of drama. His cast of compelling characters include aspiring workers, mill owners, clergy and nobles caught in the web of this era. We see the, and the bad in all the classes and things wrap up nicely in the end. A compelling journey through the times with Follett as our master guide. The audio book made a long car trip pass enjoyable.

When I heard the Follett had written a new Kings bridge book, I was very excited. I REALLY enjoyed the the first and the next three were very satisfying. For some reason, this addition took me a bit longer to become engaged. But I love English history and his choice to use the industrial revolution and the war in Europe as the setting was a good one. Midway through the book I was indeed back under Follett’s spell and fully engaged. The characters feel very real and the way he intertwines their lives is believable and satisfying.Thank you, Ken. This was a worthy addition.

Victor Frankenstein, a chemistry student, devoted all his time, experiments, and energy to create something similar to a human being with its own life. When he was finally successful, he was shocked when he saw how awful and terrifying his creation was. What he didn’t know was that his life would change forever. Even though the book was written in the nineteenth century, I felt that it touches on a topic that has awakened the interest of so many scientists: the manipulation of life. It was one of the first attempts of what we know in our century as genetic manipulation. Human beings have always felt fascinated to change things under the argument of making life better and furthering knowledge. This book also delves into a topic that has been discussed for centuries: are all the people born good and if they become evil it is the effect of their environment? Or are some people born evil from the start? A very good book, especially if we consider that it was written by a woman, who in those times was considered an inferior being.

In the latest installment of the series which started with Pillars of the Earth, Follett has produced a masterpiece. It is the end of the 18th century, and the Industrial Revolution has come to Kingsbridge. The mills need to produce fabric from the yarn, and the machines can do it faster and better than the men. The struggle between worker and master in intertwined between the important events of the era, in a way that only Follett can achieve. I recommend this book highly, and eagerly await the next in this series.

For anyone who wishes to be entertained and gain an understanding of how the fabric industry began around 1800’s, this is a book for you. Ken Follett brings home the reality of life in England as it struggled with the unfairness of life in a fabric mill. You will feel the dispare of a child working 12 hour days with little hope of enjoying life. Then too, you will learn about what it was like to fight in a war against Napoleon. Life was terribly harsh for the poor during this time, and Follett brings this fact to you by letting you get to know fictional characters that help you feel what they felt. I enjoyed both the history lesson and the character development and would highly recommend this book.
