  1. R.H. McCort

The small town of White Rock, New Hampshire had just suffered the worst of crimes; a police officer was killed while helping someone fix a flat tire. All Tyler wanted to do was help a stranded driver with a flat tire, who would have known the driver had stolen the vehicle and this act of kindness would cost him his life. Nothing is worst for Chief Sam Mason thank standing over the casket of his fallen officer, Tyler Richardson it was then that Sam Mason vowed to “get the person responsible for gunning him down.”Tyler was unmarried and lived home with his mother and sister Clarissa who had a degenerative muscular disease. The family was not wealthy and with Clarissa’s medical expenses the Chief was worried how the family would make ends meet. The Chief came up with a “fallen officer fund” and knew that his 401 could handle the hit with the withdrawal he would be making. The already too small police force was really going to be hurting with only Chief Sam Mason, Sergeant Jody Harris, Reese Hordon, the department receptionist (who hadn’t graduated from the academy yet so unable to do field work) and Kevin their part time officer but somehow they would protect and serve the people of White Rock. When the call came out that there was a dead body at the Sacagewasset River, making a hasty good bye Chief, Jody and Kevin headed out. Each member brought an expertise to the force, Jody or Jo as she was known can read people, while Chief Sam was all about the evidence and turning clues over in his mind. The girl found dead in the Sacagewasset River was Lynn Palmer half owner of Lyah Games, with her business partner Noah Brickey. They had been camping along the river with employees Amber Huffman, Tara Barrett, Julie Swan and Joshua Moore.Come along with clues and body language for the many twists and turns you will find in the story of solving who killed Lynn Palmer.Ms. Dobbs brings just enough tidbits of stories about each character starting with Chief Sam Mason, Sergeant Jody Harris, Officer Kevin, mayor Harley Dupont, Eric, Reese’s boyfriend , and real estate developer Lucas Thorne , Reverend Billie, and private investigator and Sam’s best friend Mick Gervasi, the two old ladies Nettie Deardorff and Rita Hoelscher, and many more. Just with the attention to details you just have to know there will be several more books in this series. This is well written, grab ahold and keep you reading well into the night or when you really should be doing something else, Ms. Dobbs please continue to write the story about Chief Sam and other residents of the town of White Rock.

I rarely buy a book with a #4 rating. However in looking further I saw that the remainder of the ratings for the remainder of this series were all #5. Since I love K-9 mysteries, I had to go for it, and am so glad I did!

  3. drclevinger

I found that the book was easy reading, and that kept moving along at a nice pace. I would recommend this book.

  4. Marilyn Gamble

  6. Monica Beltrami-Carter

In spite that I’m a cat lady, I love dogs, especially those trained to be in service, like guiding blind people or being part of the K9 law enforcement. This novel got my second preference UP!I’m anxious to read the full series one by one.Thank you, L. A. Dobbs.I’ll be in touch with your different series.Monica Beltrami, Montevideo, Uruguay.

  7. Constant

Sam Mason found a dog that can help solve mysteries. That and his own skills make for a very good story. “Telling Lies” is a good way to start a series and capture an audience. A murder is solved with the dog’s help while introducing not only Sam but his team in the small town police force and a nemesis or two. I am on my way to get Book 2 and after you finish Book 1, I think you will want to continue the series as well. Enjoy.

  8. Kirstyn

I picked up this 1st book in the Sam Mason series from an offer I received via email. So glad I did! Such a great story line with interesting characters. The lies and secrets and how they are twisted into a well written mystery series is wonderful.I just finished book 6 and pre ordered book 7 that doesn’t come out until next year.It is unusual for me to stick with a series to this extent as I usually get bored as the storyline becomes easily interpreted into the solution before you finish reading. This did not happen with this series.I reserve 5 stars for the stories that are fascinating, twisty and thought provoking. Stories that make it hard for me to put the book down to do other stuff.Well done! This is one series that would make for great made for TV movies like the Jessie Stone movies.

  10. SheriMom

This was a very good book with some mysteries and going about trying to solve it. There’s also a stray dog involved. It’s an easy and relaxing story. Anyone that enjoys a mystery might like this one.
