Does what it says during test. Confident it will alert me when and if needed.

I bought this a few years ago because I needed a smoke detector, but I also wanted CO detection. I always wondered if it actually worked, as I am prone to do with things that only do something in an emergency. I got my answer in the wee hours of yesterday morning: Our power was out for almost a week, in a dangerous heat wave. We have a generator to run essentials like fridges and freezers, and we also plugged in a small window unit AC because it was that dangerously hot. At one point we moved the generator to what we thought was a better location, neglecting one vital detail: just above that spot was an attic vent.Everyone was asleep, and around 4am my brother and I were awoken by a very loud BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP we had never heard before. Once we figured out it was my Kidde detector, we were confused. The generator had been running all week, and we’ve never had a CO alarm go off before. No one has symptoms. We had another CO detector, and it wasn’t going off. Was the Kidde one defective? We took it outside, it stopped beeping. Back in the house: BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP. Oh, it’s not defective. Called 911, shooed the rest of the family out of the house. Firemen arrive, and they praise our quick response: Inside the house the CO level had risen to 40 ppm, a dangerous level over time, but the attic was a whopping 200 ppm. We could have died if we had ignored the alarm. As it was they urged all of us to go to the emergency room. You know how in the US you can tell how bad off you are by how fast the ER starts treating you? They had all five of us on oxygen within minutes of walking in the door. Let me reiterate: none of us had symptoms of CO poisioning, not even our chronically ill members, but we all had elevated blood levels. The other detector we had DID go off, but not until it had been placed in a room with a window near where the generator was. Needless to say, I’ve already ordered another Kidde unit and will probably acquire more in the future.

Cheaper than buying a separate smoke detector and CO detector.

Game Changer. Getting older now, not a fan of getting up on ladders to change smoke detector batteries and light bulbs.I did not know there were smoke detectors with ten-year batteries, glad I found this from a recognized brand.

10 years is a pretty good lifetime for batteries to last. Our last Monoxide/ Smoke detector had a 10 year life. It used AA batteries, and we replaced them 2 or 3 times during that 10 year time. Hopefully this one does the job we need it to. I guess time or a horrible fire/ gas leak will tell. Hopefully the correct one will be time.

I no longer get false alarms from shower steam like from old First Alert. The 10 year battery is very convenient and i’m happy was able to get the Black Friday discounts!

This smoke detector also is a carbon monoxide detector, both life savers! It was easy to install, looks great in our kitchen, and we know that it works well as when cooking this week the smoke detector alarm went off when my cooking got too smokey! The price point is great and recommend these devices in all homes!
