Seems to be of the same good quality as the new smoke detector system. However it doesn’t communicate with those units.

I am so tired of First Alert detectors failing after just a few years. I hope these Kidde detectors will be better. So far no false or defective beeps/ear watering tones. Plus now all 7 detectors are dual detectors.

First thing you notice is this carbon monoxide/smoke detector is more modern looking than the model it replaced. It still has the green status light to let you know the power supply is good.I replaced a model that had surpassed its expected life cycle. The mount was identical, but I went ahead and replaced it anyway since the old one was ten years old and even though it was clean, you could tell it was much older than the detector. I did have to change the connector as it has been updated from the prior model. I was hoping for a quick unplug of the old one and plug in the new, but wasn’t that lucky. It took about five minutes to swap connectors, so very simple, but does require flipping the breaker to cut power to the circuit.

Not sure why they had to change the design and I had to reawire in a new connector BUT it came with that connector and it only took an extra 5 minutes to get it back into my system. Uses same base as the previous model so really minimal hassle… no complaints

The only thing I can say about this is that it is very easy to install. If you can connect two wires, you can do it!I hope I never have the opportunity to test out the other features.

This is the second order I purchased and in this box the connection wiring was missing. Very disappointed. Had to out and purchase two sets of wires. Didn’t want to return the order because I really needed the units.

We had no idea that our old smoke alarm had a ten year life! It was hard wired so we assumed that it would live forever..lol. Well one day the alarm went off and we learned that it had lived out it’s ten year life. The company told us what model we needed to replace our old one. There was a little bit of a difference in how it plugged in but everything was included in the new ones package. Their customer service was refreshing since they were very helpful, knew their products and were easy to understand. Kidde smoke detectors are all we have ever used.

Our 10 yr old Kidde KN-COSM-IB alarms expired and started beeping. Replaced them with the Kidde 900-CUAR. Wiring compatible, but not strictly plug compatible. Although the plug pinouts are the same for the two Kidde alarm models, the plug housing form factor and the way the plugs go into the alarms differs. The COSM-IB alarm’s pins come straight out the back (perpendicular to the back face). The 900-CUAR pins are parallel to the back face. Thus, the plug for the COSM-IB goes straight into the back face of the alarm, while the plug for the 900-CUAR goes in parallel to the back face. The pics show that the connectors have the same 3-pin geometry, but the housing is different and a COSM-IB connector won’t fit into a 900-CUAR smoke-CO alarm, and vice versa. So I had to remove all of the COSM-IB connectors and replace them with 900-CUAR connectors. Fortunately, the mounting ring was compatible, so I didn’t have to change out anything else.I installed nine 900-CUAR alarms and they tested successfully — they are all networked and if I trigger/test one alarm, the others are set off. You have to pay attention to the audible alarm pattern to know whether the trigger was smoke or CO. The 900-CUAR does not have voice warning (that’s the 900-CUAR-V). You also have to look for a blinking LED pattern if you want to know which alarm in the network was the triggering alarm.

I was replacing two very old BRK hard wired units, and my HVAC company owner friend highly recommended these Kidde units. These are the combo CO/Smoke units that are hard wired, with a battery backup. The only minor issue is there are no wire nuts as part of the package, but I reused the existing wire nuts from the units being replaced, plus I had many on-hand. The units installed very easily and the backing plate had all fastener options (holes) to connect to the electrical box.Note if you do have older units in place that connect with the “3rd wire”, all existing units needed to be removed prior to starting to replace them. If you leave any in place, all the units will sound off during the install, which is a bit disconcerting. Kidde support confirmed that all older units need to be removed prior to installing the first one. Overall I give these a 5/5.

Ordered to replace our original detector that had reached its end date. Had to re-wire the unit to the house’s power to accommodate the new plug shape but that only took a few minutes. Tested perfectly as soon as it was mounted
