I know it is not new tech, but I can’t tell you how much better this is than the antiquated pool pump timer we were using before. Sometimes from my window I can see the pool robot getting stuck, so I hit the power button from my phone and it shakes loose and I power it back up and its on its way again. In Phx, that is helpful with its 110 degrees out. The only shame is, there are two plugs that can be programmed independently of each other, but I have no use for the second one and it is now bored. So I named it that in the Kasa app.

I purchased this smart Wi-Fi plug for my garage door opener. This allows me to turn my opener on/off from any location. The connection is stable and there is no lag time when turning the plug on or off from your phone. You can set a schedule to turn your opener on/off automatically at specific times. For example you can schedule your opener to power off at 10pm and power back on at 7am. This will prevent anyone from opening your door at night. This is especially important if you have an opener in a car that is parked in your driveway.Another feature is geo-fencing which allows you to set a perimeter around your neighborhood. The opener automatically powers off when your phone leaves your neighborhood and powers back on when you return.Need to use your door when it’s off? No problem just open the app on your phone to turn opener on/off from anywhere, or simply press the on/off button on the smart plug.Important note: When setting up the smart plug you MUST enter model number in the search box to ensure you are getting the correct configuration for your particular plug as there are several models available.

The Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug is a game-changer for anyone looking to add convenience to their home automation setup. Setting it up was a breeze, taking just minutes to connect to the Wi-Fi and integrate with the Kasa app. The real magic happens when you start using it—controlling your outdoor lights and appliances from anywhere in your home is incredibly convenient. We use the Kasa Smart Plug for our Christmas lights and heat cords on the roof. It’s been a lifesaver during the holiday season, allowing us to easily turn everything on and off with just a few taps on our phone. No more braving the cold to manage outdoor decorations or worrying about leaving things on when we’re not around. The plug itself is durable and weather-resistant, perfect for outdoor use. Its compact design blends seamlessly with the rest of our outdoor setup, and the performance has been flawless. Whether you’re setting it up for seasonal decorations or everyday outdoor appliances, this smart plug offers reliability and ease of use.Overall, the Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug is a fantastic addition to any smart home setup. It simplifies control over outdoor devices and offers a level of convenience that makes it worth every penny. Five out of five stars!

I have had so many wireless devices over the years and some have been a real nightmare to get them connected to my network. And I’m a retired IT professional with years of working with WiFi technology. Some of these devices are down right demonic. Even after initially connecting, they’ll drop off and require you to reset to factory defaults and start over again. Not so much with the Kasa line of devices. They connect on the first, or maybe second try, and stay connected. They work seamlessly with Alexa so you don’t need to open a different UI for each different manufacturer, and they are Smart Things compliant.

Update (12/11/23): Found there is a newer version of the single wall plug, which offers energy monitoring capability. The newer model is KP115, released in Oct 2020; whereas the older model is HS103P2, released in March 2018. The newer plugs are more expensive, but I would pay the extra cost for the energy monitoring feature if needed.Related Products:Kasa Smart Plug Mini with Energy Monitoring, (KP115), ~ $224.4 out of 5 stars 14,686 ratings | 211 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LN3C7WKSummary: I am reviewing two similar Kasa (TP-Link) smart plugs with this review. One of the two white single plugs was DOA (dead on arrival), so I took the opportunity to open it up and inspect the internals. The 2-plug outdoor one worked fine.Initial Problem: The issue with one of them was the relay would click, but plug would not pass power. This occurred with both the physical power switch, and through the app; so the control circuit was ok, but the power circuit was defective.Observations (construction): Like most modern manufactured items, this one is a snap together setup, and once I figured out where the tabs were, disassembly was fairly straight forward (I will not be providing a step by step on how to open them). The construction is decent. The relay is a 200V and 16A version, and should be able to pass full power (1875W for a 15A circuit). However, I would not push the power limit as fire could ensue.Software Setup: After downloading the app (iPhone), setup was straight forward. It appears to only connect to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network; however, with my phone on the 5GHz network, I was still able to control the device. Generally 2.4GHz has better range, and 5GHz has better bandwidth, so 2.4Ghz is the appropriate band for this device (and most IoT devices). Upon completion of setup, the app offered to update the firmware (which completed in less than 5 minutes). Setup was the same for both (the outdoor didn’t need a firmware update).Pros: simple setup; firmware updates.Cons: 1 of 2 DOA.Conclusion: At $13 for two, rating this 3-stars (-2 for the DOA, otherwise this would have been 5-stars). I also ordered a two-outlet Outdoor plug (listed below), which I am rating 5-stars.Related Products:Kasa Outdoor Smart Plug, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FRKasa Outdoor Smart Plug, 2 Sockets, IP64 Weather Resistance, ~ $164.6 out of 5 stars 13,373 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091FXH2FR

I bought this smart plug to use for outdoor lights on my lower level patio and upper level deck. We needed a quick fix as the upper level power supply suddenly stopped working. And did not want to go downstairs to flip a switch every time we needed to use lights. This smart plug was easy to set up. The app is easy to use and does the job. Was compatible with my Samsung phone. Some features of the app that I have not yet tried, but was pleased to see were available was a timer option, and a schedule option – so I could schedule the lights to come on at a certain time.Would buy again!

I’ve been using this smart plug for over a year now and it’s been great. ZERO connection issues and it’s been outside the whole time (covered patio). The plug has definitely gotten wet (not completely soaked) and hasn’t had any issues.Very easy to use with Google Home and easy to connect to.Comes with outlet covers if one of the plug isn’t being used.2 buttons on the outside to manually turn on each plug separately.Seems to be made from quality materials.I own 2 and haven’t had any issues with any of them.Used 100% of the time, every time of the year. From summer to winter. No issues.

This thing just works. I mean, every time. The app is easy to use and, above all, easy to set up. I had it running in just a couple minutes. I don’t understand why other manufacturers can do this. I had purchased another wi-fi plug a week earlier (BN Something) and I spent an hour trying to get it to work with my WiFi to no avail. Looking into it, I think it might have been due to my dual band router which runs 2.4ghz and 5ghz. That product—and this one—are both stated to only work on 2.4ghz. Whatever. I’m not a big techie, so I don’t know the details, all I know is that the Kasa plug didn’t give a crap. My system recognized it instantly and it was a breeze from there. I’ve been using it for a few weeks to operate a back patio fountain and it never fails. Even my low tech wife who thought my WiFi controlled fountain idea was silly is now converted. I installed the app on her phone and signed in using my info. Viola! It worked for her in about a minute. Now she’s hooked. I even got an apology, which is a whole different subject. Another plus with this WiFi outlet over the other one is that each of the two outlets can operate separately to run two different things. I’m still trying to figure out what to hook up to the second one—maybe my bug zapper or something. Again, the app is easy to use to do this. Pick a button and press. If you’re on the fence deciding which Wi-Fi plug to buy, get off of it and choose this one. Kudos to Kasa for designing a product that does exactly what it’s supposed to with no aggravation. I would absolutely purchase again and probably will.

I got a few of these to be able to control our outdoor holiday lights and the string lights on the porches. We previously had solar sensor timers that would come on at dusk and stay on for 2, 4, or 6 hours, however I set them. But because the lights were plugged in on different sides of the house, they received different amounts of sunlight and they came on and shut off at different times. With these outlets, I was able to schedule everything to come on at the exact same time, and shut off at the exact same time. We leave certain light displays up longer through the winter than others and being able to change the lighting schedule with my phone and not having to go outside to fiddle with individual outlets has been a dream. We leave string lights on the porches most of the year and I am able to easily change the schedule so they come on later in the day as the days get longer and we still have daylight until 6pm, then 7pm, etc.We have a rental property where we use Heat Trak mats to melt the snow and ice on the porch and I added an outlet there so I can turn the mats on only when it is snowing or if there is freezing rain.Although I choose to schedule our lights at the same time, each of the outlets can be managed independently. I will be adding one of these double outlets to our small pond to be able to manage the pump with one outlet and the lighting around it separately. These outlets have given me peace of mind and make outdoor lighting SO much easier to manage.

Perfect smart switch for many outdoor uses, I use it mainly for Christmas season to control all my Christmas lights and this changed everything forever so I don’t have to worry about turning or plugging ON/OFF my lights. The schedule function is extremely convenient and easy to setup to make all your lights completely automatic, work really well and is compatible with all my Google Home devices and Alexa
