I needed to replace my smoke and CO detectors to be compatible with my Abode alarm system. These integrated with ease.

This installs just like any other smoke detector with the added benefit of being able to be added into my Home Assistant system. Now, if I’m not home I can get notification if there is smoke or CO alarms going off. I’m getting ready to order a few more to replace older, non ZWave devices.

I’ve had this alarm for about a month, and am very pleased. So much so that I purchased a second two weeks after the first. However, before I get to the rest of my comments, I’d like to say something about the nature of reviewing smart devices in February 2016. Right now there are several smart systems, not really a clear front runner, and the ecosystems are rather young. I’ve seen a number of devices where there were strong correlations between the review given, and the system used. The device didn’t change between the two systems, the systems changed. The hubs were different, with different chipsets, with different firmware, with different software, with different setups in different houses. So, just a word of advice that a negative review with System A doesn’t necessarily mean there would be a bad experience with System B. Try to make sure your situation will be similar before valuing the review – and take everything with a grain of salt. With that out of the way, I’d say that this product is designed well. The alarm is loud, and was fairly sensitive to smoke in my testing. When I say “fairly”, I would consider that optimal. Very sensitive would be too sensitive, and cause false alarms, and insensitive is useless. I’ve not been able to test CO2, so no comment there. The first one I purchased has been running about a month, and is down to 92% on the batteries. It is about twenty feet from my SmartThings v2 hub, with only a couple walls in the way. So, I think that is decent battery life. The second one is in line with that battery usage, and is much father away. Pairing was super easy, no problems there. And, one thing I really liked is the rounded-octagon shaped. That made it very easy to screw in or out of the mounting bracket.I’m not sure if this is SmartThings, or the device, or my software revision, but I was unable to clear the alarm through SmartThings. Seems like that can only be done on the device. But, I don’t believe I ever saw anyone specifically mention being able to do this – with any system – so perhaps that is not even an option. But, I could see it as a nice touch. I can hit the button to clear the alarm, because I’m taller, but my wife would have to go get something to step on while it is going off. Having the ability to clear it from SmartThings would be nice for her. But, it’s a smoke alarm, hopefully that shouldn’t be a common problem, right?

If you are a smartthings user, be aware, it is not intuitive at all on how to add this to your network (this is more a dig directed at SamSung than FirstAlert). The Alarm works great, adding it to the network it a challenge.1 I choose add a device,2. then chose First Alert3 it had me scan the code (at the bottom it had a link for setup without code)4 then took me to a page that said “prepare the device”. Nothing else, and no instructions in the documentation. What I did was to cancel the setup, then go thru the first two steps again. on the third step I chose the “Setup without code”. It took me to a page that instructed me to remove batteries, put them back in and as you were closing the tray, press the button on the firealarm for 2 seconds. I did that, then it asks for the first 4 digits of the code on the package, and the fire alarm. I did that, and it works like a charm.

Look and function like the old one. Have to replace the base also. Would not work with the old base. Not a big deal.very simple to install.

Easily added to Hubitat hub system. Seems to work just fine.

I replaced two units that were 8 years old. These are easy to connect to Vera or any other Z-wave system and offer both Smoke/fire and CO alerting. Battery lasts about a year and they use AA which most of us keep around.

I have all Ring products it was easy to set up, but confusing because it shows two items on the dashboard. Hopefully I’ll never have need for this but better safe than sorry!
