“Carried on the Wind” is a wonderfully written story of a young man through his teen years and on through adulthood. It is a story of love and war taking place in Medieval Europe. This is the 3rd book that I have read by Tom. And, it didn’t disappoint.

Tom Nelson continues to write books that are meaningful.Written in the third person, this novel provides an intimate glimpse into the life of a young nobleman’ life experiences placed in the late 900s in the areas of Switzerland, Germany, Northern Italy and the Mediterranean areas.What is special is the writer’s love and knowledge of horses, which is revealed throughout the book.I recommend Tom’ book and await his next.

Tom has given us a wonderful coming of age story of young Max, a noble’s son, growing up in the 10th century dutchy of Swabia. Written in rich detail, this book has all the elements of a great adventure: battles, pirates, travels to far off lands, love and romance, and a true love of horses. I found that that Tom’s philosophies on war, relationships, and love of the natural world very closely resemble my own. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys stories about the middle ages, or who is just looking for a great adventure book.

Carried on the Wind is an adventure story that takes the reader on a ride from Zurich to Germany, Spain, Turkey, and Italy. Max, the main character, travels to these places as a vassal to King Otto. When Max is home in Zurich he loves to spend time training horses, preparing them to later carry knights. Because of Max’s love of horses he introduced to horse lovers and trainers in Spain and Turkey. From them he learns different training methods and they lead him on some exciting equine adventures. Max is kind, brave and loyal and the type of person you will enjoy sharing his lifelong journey with, I know that I did.

Max is the son of a noble, and his coming of age story takes the reader through his childhood, his love of horses and growing with them, his appreciation of nature, and a girl, of course. Being a noble’s son, he is expected to live up to certain standards that take him to distant beautiful cities, stranded on foreign islands with pirates, wars and servitude of King Otto. You get to see the world perspective change from one of a wondrous boy to a hardened man, through the exciting gains of love, new life, and losses that help us appreciate the goodness in the world.
