Achtung Verpackung schrecklich
Da ist sicher was verbogen. Geht genau so wieder zurück. Schade eigentlich.

The Arduino Nano 33 IOT has no EEPROM!!!
I would have given this board a 4 and almost a 5, but it has absolutely no EEPROM! This makes it difficult to use for control applications where default and max/min settings will need trimming and storing. As supplied, the board is set up for BLE, the ESP32 which controls the radio has to be reprogrammed through a pretty convoluted process to change it to BT classic.

Bricked Arduino.
Very gutted. I bought the product. Worked well out of the box, but had a message to update the firmware. I eventually started the update , but it failed. Now the Arduino is a brick. My main problem is there are NO instructions in the manufacturer’s packaging that tell you how to update it.

Simply stopped working
I bought one of these to work on a project where I was going to communicate with a sim cell module but shortly after getting it to work it was bricked somehow (literally no clue, static isn’t a problem here in the summer, wasn’t using it without current limiting resistors etc) and I stopped seeing it when I plugged it in.

Endless possibilities but has issues
Its truely amazing what you can do with this.Though there is a known problem with the Arduino Nano 33 IoT where most of the time COM channel is switched and you have to fiddle with it to allow you to upload. Also because of this COM issue, its hard to get a debugger attached to the COM channel.

Don’t buy this device your will get UBS connection issue.
If you have a genie project that you want to display on a circular screen, this product is not ready for that yet. I have to return two of them with the same issue. “Windows it doesn’t recognize UBS device” error. There is not good documentation, on why I am getting this error, and how to fix it.

Nichts auszusetzen
Guter Microcontroller, Wifi direkt dabei.Eigentlich nichts auszusetzen.

Small, cheap, and broken
I have a dozen of so various arduino and clone microcontrollers. This one is fiddly, temperamental, and suffers from a number of design flaws.

These little things are awesome
This is my first experience using Arduinos. I’ve used RPIs for years. I’m impressed with the boot time, and size/power consumption. perfect little devices for my embedded project!

Connections difficult.
Works great. My only problem was soldering wires to the board but I’m inexperienced at soldering. Nonetheless I successfully made the connections. Having Bluetooth already on the board was great.

Versatile durable board
I’ve used ESP32 based board in a few projects now and it works very well. Granted you can get an ESP32 cheaper but if you just need it to work as expected this is an easy way to go.

Perfect alternative to Raspberry Pi for hardware monitors
Arduino has always struggled versus the raspberry pi’s ability to easily connect wifi, making the RPI the go-to choice for integrating to network services. However, the relative weakness of RPIs GPIO vs the Arduino’s great PWM/Analog/Digital IO makes it more difficult to do simple hardware integrations with. I *love* this solution and have been thrilled with it. The WifiNINA library makes connecting trivial, and making web requests to post updates is so simple. I now finally have the best of both worlds – great IO and low power with simple reliable networking. The addition of Arduino Cloud is a nice touch, but the monthly cost has kept me from doing anything more than exploring that option a little bit. Great product, highly recommended.

Arduiono sketches seem a bit Mickey Mouse
The Arduino software is a bit Mickey Mouse but maybe OK for a beginner. The main() function is hidden and there is a setup and loop function that you are supposed to work with. There is a large code library and the code I have seen has no comments in it. A lot of it seems like it was written by C++ developers who want to create a lot of useless layers of pass thru functions or they will write a dozen constructors and only use one or two. You may say that unused code does not get compiled. True but it makes more crap to wade through when analyzing. The I2C bus died after a week but forturnately the SPI bus still works. I bought an external debugger to use with it but the debugging code is so poor that it is more trouble to use than not. I also have problems getting large programs to upload (download in the world of rational folk). I don’t change anything in the code but after a lot of resetting and rebooting it might upload. So I got a Nordic 52nRF series dev board and life is good again.

Works great with Arduino Cloud
I had been wrestling with getting a no name ESP32 board to work right and thought I would spend the extra money to try this board out. Clearly the Arduino Cloud environment is designed to make these boards much easier to us as my project came together super quick and easy with this board. Saved a lot of time that made the extra money worth it – for me anyway.

Two bad out of the box.
I have one of these, but the BLE stopped working – granted, it was tossed around in my laptop bag for months and months, but alas something went bad with the UBLOX it seems. I can still upload to it and use it, I/O still works, just no BLE. So,,, I ordered as replacement here, received it, soldered in the pins and hooked it to my USB and the green light comes on and the yellow light blinks – like it has a blink sketch loaded. No biggie – but I can’t upload to it. In fact, Win10 Device manager doesn’t even see it. Double-clicked the RESET button and now I have a pulsing LED with about the same frequency. Bootloader mode I see. Still – Win10 does NOT recognize it in the device manager. Did I fry it while soldering? Checked all my joints, they all look good. Sent it back DOA and got a replacement.Received the replacement. Didn’t bother trying to even solder it. Plugged it in straight out of the box. EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR. Did I really get two bad in a row?? There seems to be a BLINK sketch in it. How did it get loaded? Double-clicking also puts it in bootloader mode/pulse mode. A power reset puts in back in blink mode. In NO event can I upload to it OR does the Device Manager see it. My original nano 33 IOT still works and uploads and spits out data to the serial monitor. What gives?*** UPDATE 1/14/2021: Sent this second unit back as well and ordered a Nano 33 BLE Sense – looks like people are having a really good experience with that one. I’ll have to look into it a bit deeper, but from the surface, it seems that it is 100% compatible with the hardware that I already have hooked up w/the 33 IOT (pinouts/3.3V) AND the libraries that I am already using (ArduinoBLE). With my sketch and hardware it may very well be a drop in swap. Same UBLOX BLE module. Just faster w/more memory and sensors. And more expensive of course.*** UPDATE 1/15/2021: Received the Nano 33 BLE Sense and it has THE SAME PROBLEM!! Recap: My current Nano 33 IOT works, but neither of the TWO new ones did NOR does this one. I can go back and forth all day, the old one works but the new one doesn’t. ALL of the new ones power up and appear to demonstrate the installation of a blink sketch and also go into bootloader mode with a doubleclick of the reset button, but NONE of them will show up in the WIN10 device manager – I flexed the pcb on the new one and it came ALIVE in the Win10 Device Manager. Relaxed the flex and it would no longer talk. Installed a BRAND NEW CABLE and NOW it works consistently. Recall, the OTHER cable works fine EVERY time with the older/existing 33 IOT. So, there’s some kinda connector/connection issue. I never swapped the cable out because it works, and works stably and consistently, with the original PCB.. Keep this in mind folks. It freakin’ drove me nuts.

Ottimo prodotto

Just about useless for micropython
If you plan to use this for micropython or circuitpython it’s better to buy it with the right boot-loader as reflashing this with a new boot-loader is crazy. In the end I shelved this in favor of a Adafruit Feather nRF52840.

Toller Einstieg ins IoT

Review really about software support
Haven’t actually hooked the think up yet… but soon. BUT… realized with some research that there’s no support in Arduino libraries (that I’ve found) for BLE 4.2 JustWorks encryption. So I’m saying 4 our of 5, not about the product, but about the absence of that library. About time, isn’t it?
